Post-surgical Instructions-Nausea and Vomiting

Rarely, patients will experience nausea and/or vomiting as a side effect of the anesthetic or prescription pain medication.  This typically resolves in quickly.  Supportive care is often all that is necessary.  Dr. Maranon recommends 7Up or Ginger ale, and asks that patients avoid dairy products or solid foods until their symptoms improve.  Even though nausea  and vomiting can be uncomfortable and distressing, the fortunately are self limiting.  These condition typically improve after a few hours without treatment.  If the symptoms persist or if you have any questions, contact Dr. Maranon as soon as possible.
